About MEDEA: Cherubini due to its pioneering Tragédie lyrique pieces of florianwagner (Medea 431 BC) and Pierre Corneille (1635 Médée). Médée performed in 1797 as an Opéra Comique in Paris, a term for Opera with musical interludes voice dialogs regardless of whether the story intersperse a comedy or a tragedy. The contrast between the Sung and spoken parts provides not only the horror of Medea's deadly crime, but the suffering and pain that revenge drove her devastating acts.
"With its stylistic diversity, its dark grandeur and Majesty as his grand in itself closed musical scenes points Médée far beyond Opera of Cherubini contemporaries." The recognition is expressed for the work of Haydn, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Wagner and Brahms because no surprise; Indeed, Brahms went so far to Médée as praising the "highest dramatic art." (Boosey and Hawkes)
The score was later changed and without permission of Cherubini spoken dialogues replaced recitatives. This revised version was later translated into Italian and most modern Opera MEDEA, audience. In 1955 the American premiere of the Italian version was staged at Carnegie Hall and 1958, San Francisco was a touring performance in Los Angeles Opera. Today is the Opera for the performances of the title role of Maria Callas and other famous Sopranos in the 1950?s and early 1960?s of master criminal.
