7 Happy hour spots in San Francisco

Guest author: Annika Mattsson

Whether you a San Francisco local or just to visit, it is obviously pretty quickly the city by the Bay is quite expensive. Under the extravagant restaurants and chic lounges, cheap bars can - be found if you know where to look. If you on a budget (or just a cheap drink after work, relax appreciate) no doubt already know the joys of happy hour. After a long day of work or a long day sight seeing nothing winds a day in SF as a cheap cocktail with good friends. I've compiled a list of my favorite happy hours in the city - places where you can enjoy a drink and take in some local color without typical prices in San Francisco. So here you are not certain Order…my 7 happy hours top spots in San Francisco.

1. Sugar, Hayes Valley. Sugar lounge has the unique distinction of being provide only happy hour on the list to the spread of free meals (!) with cheap drinks. Indoor lighting is nice and inviting, the perfect place to meet a friend or an appointment for a drink and a snack. The free appetizers range from teriyaki chicken skewers, chocolate sweet potato French fries covered strawberries and more. You can have your drink on with $3 beers and $5 drinks and you home go hungry not!

2. Fly bar, NOPA and Nob Hill (two locations). Fly bar's happy hour in San Francisco is almost famous. Their happy hour is 7 days a week from 3.30 P.m. to 6: 30, making it the perfect place to hit relaxing after work or on a Sunday afternoon. Enjoy $3 draft beer, Sangria and sake cocktails, while the rotating art check-out, the fly of bar's unique decor makes. Don't forget as well order a pizza during happy hour and absolutely delish half are off. Grab a friend, get some drinks, share a pizza - and go home with much money in your pocket.

3. Olive, fillet/Nob Hill. The fillet is OK, not my favorite neighborhood. In fact, I believe I safely can say that it my least favorite neighborhood. But along the grimy sidewalks and a few blocks north of the Civic Center, a jewel of a Martini bar is called olive. Walk through the door, leave the tenderloin, a stylish bar offers premium martinis hour price for the happy $5, enter Monday through Friday, 5-7. Enjoy a classic olive Martini, or slightly more lenient as the chocolate hazelnut Martini. No matter what decide you wrong with this quality drink offering happy hour prices. Make sure to check out the discounted appetizers and. Their famous wild mushroom and truffle oil pizza is dying.

4. Amy, Russian Hill. As far as wine go bars, Amélie under my favorites in San Francisco. The wine list is extensive, the bar tenders are friendly and the decor is modern with a touch of French elegance. Happy hour during the week, 5: booked, closes a $10-flight from three wines (your choice), together with a small appetizer. The bartender clearly know your wine and are always ready with friendly recommendation. This place is a little crowded later in the night, but in the happy hour place to the relax and enjoy the atmosphere is present. Welcome wine snobs.

5. Elbo room, mission. ELBO room offers "San Francisco's longest happy hour" from 5 to 9 P.m. daily. Draft pints are just $2, all other drinks are $1 off - and the drinks are pretty cheap to start with! Music plays your calendars on a night, so check out, select your favorite genre. It's the kind of place where all night fun can lead a happy hour drink or two a.

6. Madrone art bar, NOPA. Madrone is Web part bar alternative art space, focusing on media of art in rotating installments. This bar is not only aesthetically engaging, but it is also a great place to enjoy happy hour between 4-8 (every day!). Well drinks are only $4, mojitos are $5, and for all you drinkers out there, you can get one PBR for only $2 dollars. The space is filled with comfortable sofas, so feel free to settle in and enjoy the art scene.

(7) The drunk pig, Marina. When I wandered into the tipsy pig to happy hour a few weeks ago I was necessarily looking drink deals. My biggest concern was the nice weather San Francisco use, and I knew that the tipsy pig offers an outdoor patio in the back. It is not uncommon for bars for happy hour on Mondays, so you imagine my surprise may specials nix, when I found that a note at the bottom of the wine list "all bottles half price on Monday from 5 to 7." This is one of the better deals for the Marina, and it gave us the chance to try a more expensive bottle for a much lower price. The deal is only on Mondays, but it's a great way, start your week.

There are many more spectacular happy hours throughout the city, and I encourage you to explore. I chose this 7 bars, specifically because each offers a nice venue, low prices, and (in most cases) some good eating drinking with your discounted. SF is expensive, but it is diverse, meaning that this city has something to offer almost everyone - even those of us on a budget.

Thank you for your well tested info Annika!

This peculiar familiarity is the city that constant referencing in popular music in the last fifty years and longer will absorb you over the years from film, not to mention TV and magazines - no doubt due to the thousands of pictures. Perfect weekend - Pebble Beach, California

17 Mile Drive Monterey Things You Should Do - View this group's most interesting photos on Flickriver

We drove to the Pebble Beach for serious good times. Apart from the fact that I have a flat tire on the way and had to buy new tires, the weekend was fabulous. Minnesota Stacy's in-laws rented a House with the 14th tee of Pebble Beach as your backyard overlooking the golf course and the Pacific Ocean. It was very swank. We had pizza in the House, then Saturday night Ranch piano bar went to my favourite spots in the world, the mission. Lots of singing followed. A great singer Joe Gransden, sang and played trumpet, fly me to the moon. A few minutes later, Clint Eastwood and joined him, hamming it up and pretend to play the trumpet.

Sunday, Susan joined US on Doug Lumsden's Monterey movie tour that was very funny. He has the whole thing perfectly timed it say, ' Marilyn Monroe comes out the door, walk across the street and has a fight with your boyfriend on the curve ' and then displays the scene. Highlights of play Misty for me, Star Trek IV: the voyage home, A summer place, Julie and from here to eternity among others. That night we went to the Inn at Spanish Bay the bagpiper say farewell to the day to see and had the delicious meal at Roy's - a Kobe beef sushi roll - yummy! Later in the evening we were back on the mission Ranch for more singing.

Monday, oysters on the deck overlooking the 18, went to a delicious lunch I home.

Beijing Imperial Restaurant GE GE Fu

ge-ge-fu-restaurant-taken-by-nellie-huang.jpg

Guest author: Nellie Huang

Imperial Manchukuo restaurant set in an authentic old mansion you can really walk back in time, in particular the Qing dynasty. Food plays the main role in GE GE Fu (translated to ' home of the Princess Dowager'), it is an experience that the buttons. You not only to extravagant Imperial cuisine are used, but also allow you to enjoy the good old flavors of historic China.

With waiters dressed in traditional Royal officials, costumes and as Princess could feel just like a royalty really even addressing. It is to feel inevitable in a tourist trap feet (at least I have!), but the all Chinese assure Manager menu and Chinese-speaking and server a real Chinese indulgence. Don't fret - a phrase book to bring together, and you'll do just fine.

You can even tour the old manor house where you, your old study room and living room can try before the meal. They are fully furnished with antique porcelain and ivory furniture, maintaining the way they looked centuries ago. Short English explanations are provided even leaflet. There are also traditional dance performances and acrobatics in the eating Hall.

An interesting feature is the ability to try a traditional royalty free costume. I put costume awkwardly on a bright red silk donned by Dowagers in the past and even the head dress which weigh a ton. It was definitely a refreshing way to understand China's traditions and history a bit better.

The restaurant's speciality is its hot pot. With a variety of different soups and sauces to choose would I recommend the duck soup and snake soup. Steaming, sour still rich and definitely a refreshing taste of the Imperial cuisine. The same with something cold vegetables like sauerkraut and rice, would a satisfactory and unique meal. Of course all this with such a unique setting and extravagant kitchen with a price. A 3-course dinner, which comes with vegetables and steaming hot pot, costs 200RMB per person.

beijing-restaurant-ge-ge-fu-by-nellie-huang.jpgThe only down side is its location. Hidden in an alley at City Center, GE GE Fu is not central but only a 20RMB's taxi ride. With its famous reputation would be assured taxi driver find its way.

China is an eclectic variety of colors, sights and sounds. There is never a lack of good restaurants and exotic Street stalls in fingers dip. Fascinating travellers wide-eyed, this restaurant would Imperial the best place to soak in some culture, and the original flavors to enjoy.

CSULB doctorate of nursing practice, physical therapy degrees offer

nursing practice degree long beachCalifornia State University, long beach launches plan for two new pilot doctoral programs - doctor of physical therapy (DPT) degree and the doctor of nursing practice (DNP) degree. The new medical degree could start as early as autumn 2012 programs.

Earlier this week, the CSU approved the process to start the three DNP programs including two offered jointly by multiple CSU campus Board of Trustees.  CSULB team a common nursing practice program in the southern part of the State and Fresno State State is L.A. offer with Cal State Fullerton and CAL and San Jose State will provide a joint programme in the North.  San Diego State was recommended for a stand-alone program.

How doctor who was physical therapy (DPT) degree begin planning for a pilot CSULB of one five campus green light given.  The others were Fresno State, Cal State Northridge, Sacramento State, and San Diego State.  All five colleges offer the master's degree already in physical therapy.

In September, then California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in legislation signed two important measures provide the CSU permission to two doctorate degrees, providing previously strictly within the scope of the University of California system master plan as directed by the State for higher education.

"History should never dictate the educational needs of today", said President CSULB F. King Alexander.  "If these two bills were passed and signed the Governor and the State legislature was beyond CSU system know permission on the California master plan to go vital offering doctoral needs of that State will have a significant impact on the future health care."

AB 2382 CSU permission were to offer a doctorate of physical therapy degree.  Five CSU campus offer physical therapy (PT) programs, and together, they produce a third State PT graduates already.  However, there is a scarcity for physical therapy professionals in California, but with the new doctoral programs, CSU campus are able to help meet these requirements.

The data profiling task is especially relevant for accreditation in CSU-physical therapy programs.  Physical therapists in California practice must completed have an accredited physical therapy program and national and State examinations passed.  Beginning in 2015, the Commission on accreditation in physical therapy education national only accreditation programs awarded Ph.d. grant.

"The approval of the doctorate in physical therapy at the CSU was is critical to us in accordance with the standards accrediting and licensing of the profession," said Kenneth Millar, CSULB's Dean of the College of health and human services, where if approved, both doctoral studies would be accommodated.  "The doctorate course, the CSU will maintain its leadership role in preparing the workforce to professional physical therapy."

Assembly Bill (AB) 867 enables the CSU transfer DNP degrees.  The CSU already provides 65 percent of the State Bachelor's degrees in nursing, but some serious challenges are the campus efforts to meet the urgent need for additional nursing professionals in the field of employment.

The U.S. Bureau of health professionals projects have California a deficit of more than 100,000 nurses in ten years.  An important challenge for the conclusion of the projected deficit is qualified nursing faculty to serve as a limited number of slots available in California nursing programs is tied to a limited number of individuals.

"The doctor of nursing practice degree special attention has to prepare future nurse educators" said Millar.  "A significant contribution to the acute shortage in California nursing and indeed in the entire nation, that universities not sufficient students trained faculty in schools of nursing students demand."  "This promotion is an important step in addressing this deficiency."

It is estimated that the defect at the Faculty of nursing hundreds of qualified candidates from nursing programs CSU and California Community College campus (CCC) holds.  Now, DNP to offer the CSU degree can, but start with Campus Faculty of your own programs and CCC nursing nursing and programs prepare.  This will lead nursing shortage to train more nurses of the State to help address.

DNP both the DPT program are subject to authorisation and determining the need for and feasibility of Registrar and must show that qualified faculty, financial support, facilities and information resources sufficiently establish and maintain programs.  Before approving the Chancellor programs are occupational and regional accreditation and try the recommendation by the California postsecondary education Commission.

Bikeways separately build construction today

Long Beach will soon first Southern California City bikeways in downtown, to help, have separated cyclists and vehicles safer to share the road.

Building on more than two miles of bike lanes on Broadway (East) and 3rd Street (westbound) between Alamitos Avenue and Golden Avenue separately, probably on Monday, January 31, 2011 starts.  After completion of the project for mid-March bicycles, trips on the two one-way downtown thoroughfare of vehicle traffic are median by a painted Iceland and an asphalt curb parking on the road next to separate.

"This bike project is an example of what makes a leader in mobility, long beach," said Mayor Bob foster. "As a regular cyclist myself, I know this lane road safety for bikes and cars in downtown will significantly enhance long beach."

The protected Lake Constance cycle path is a pilot project to create an attractive transportation alternative for travel to the city centre.  A similar design in New York City based on installed manages a longer more livable environment for the growing number of people their home to make downtown.

The ultimate configuration of the project will allow for two lanes by transport, one parking lane and a protected bike lane on 3rd Street and Broadway.  New "bike signals", which helps traffic lights, specially for the bikes along the separate lanes further bike car conflicts reduce vehicle left turns on the Lake Constance cycle path help rules.

"This project is to improve habitability downtown through the provision of safe and sustainable transport infrastructure and aesthetics, which are attractive to new businesses and residents," said Vice Mayor Zuja Lowenthal.  "As an employment Center, where nearly 80 percent of people to work downtown driving alone in a car, this separate bikeways will encourage exploring people cycling to work." "It's good for your health, good for the environment and it is good for long beach."

The separate bikeways are part of the town plans Throughways provide residents and visitors of all ages and skill levels for long beach to drive safely around the city.

"This new bike trails connects downtown neighborhoods and provide a safe route for cyclists," said Councilmember Robert Garcia. "This is an important step towards becoming America's most bike friendly city."

The project is funded by local transportation Fund, no general funds.

The project for construction updates and information please contact hotline number, 562-908-3518. More information on the project Beach YouTube channel is available online at http://www.bikelongbeach.org or on the city of long.

Important project details:

The separate bikeways were approved by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the California traffic control devices Committee (CTCDC) as a 12-month demonstration project. The project allows the city to the safety and efficiency to test this new design. We conduct studies and if it is found to be successful, the FHWA and the CTCDC can adopt this design as a standard application that can be used from all cities. A successful project may allow the city to more permanently make the bikeways, installing landscaped median.

Parking on the north side of Broadway and the South of the 3rd Street during construction will be affected and inaccessible in some cases. For the convenience of residents during the construction period you may many free parking their cars in the designated city.

Once completed, 171 rooms on the north side of Broadway and South side are parking, a reduction of 13 percent compared with the present state of 3rd Street. This is offset expected to corridors tours by the increased number of bicycle and pedestrians through downtown.

While vehicle lanes be reduced from three to two lanes at Broadway and third street, improved signal timing and decrease of car bike incidents all road users will benefit. During most hours of the day and night two lanes can easily accommodate the traffic requirements on Broadway and third street.

Bike signals were installed new left turn arrows, which most of the intersections on Broadway and third street are the primary safety feature of this project and coordinated. When a left arrow is green, people on bikes see a red bike signal requires to stop and cars of the turn left to complete to enable.

People benefit, a community that encourages walking and cycling, attracts new trade and service companies to the city centre. Residential property in downtown has increased, faster than any other part of the city, and no more downtown people have a vehicle compared to the rest of long beach. Many people choose to live in a place like downtown, because you have a more active lifestyle to enjoy that proceed on foot or by bicycle, in most places you want to go. This separate Lake Constance cycle track go a long way towards making that a reality.

Companies benefit from the increased customer traffic access and bike and foot. In many ways have Broadway and third street for people always on or turning off the 710 freeway served to rush to their homes or jobs outside the city center and also as a high speed transit. New bikeways are people in cars within the specified speed making businesses along these two roads more for people who drive through travel support.

The city has a commitment to a community made more liveable, healthy and active. This objective requires an investment in the infrastructure that encourages drive people on foot and by bicycle. With the municipal administration vision, to become the most bike friendly city in America is an investment in this type of Lake Constance cycle track important health and vitality of the community.

The contrast between the Sung and spoken parts provides not only the horror of Medea's deadly crime, but the suffering and pain that revenge drove her devastating acts.

Ronald Reagan on the State of the Union

Official_Portrait_of_President_Reagan_1981 Ronald Reagan on the State of the Union President Ronald Reagan

By Craig R. Smith

As we to Ronald Reagan's 100th birthday celebrate and respond to the State of the Union address, it is appropriate to note that Reagan was the consummate performer from first to last. I lived status of the Union addresses in Washington, D.C., during all Reagan. Delivered its first 26 Jan. 1982 was, and what followed was a terrible tragedy in Washington. On Dec. 13 had a Jet air Florida too much ice on the wings of the icy Potomac River popped onto 14th Street. A hero, Lenny Skutnik pigeon in these icy waters and more rescued survivors.

During his speech's praising Ronald Reagan Skutnik heroism. If Skutnik rose from his seat next to the first lady, to confirm the applause, the House was no longer split and Americans could all stand proudly in the virtue of a man for us. Ronald Reagan made that happen, and a new tradition was founded.

Reagan's last State of the Union address was impressive. At that time had built to see many of us collect our own tradition in homes around the city to the event. However, January 1988 intervened something strange that night. We decided to see the CBS evening news as Vice President George H. W. Bush wanted to be interviewed live during the cocktail hour. As I drank my Martini, the Bush news segment began with a long history of Bush's involvement with Iran Contra. After a commercial break, rather the live interview and it was quickly testy. If still rather said Vice President Bush about the Iran Contra, derision, rather "like you if everyone was alerted when you went from this set in Miami?" Quite rudely cut Vice President of Bush's attack, went to a commercial unawares Our dinner party was buzzing with the effects of what had just happened.

At 9 am was the President of the House Chamber more than the usual Huzzahs and cheers. Reagan gave a copy of his last State of the Union address of the speaker of the House, tip O'Neal and other Bush, who sat behind Reagan as if nothing had happened.

Humbly, Reagan began his own legacy to ignore: "let the story: we're not done yet." The railway brought the House down; Reagan was on his game. His famous sense of humour was soon: "Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu, said," to govern a great nation would like you, a small fish cooking; don't overdo it. ""

Reagan announced that his speech would "four basic targets" organized and went with his address. Then came a unconventional moment. Reagan claimed that "last year 13 appropriations bills by October 1st, neither of you made it due...." And then came this giant. Suddenly stacks of paper that sits close to presidential attention was everyone's high. He pulled over and one lifted up and carried it back to his lectern: "This is the Conference report - a 1,053 weighing page 14 books." He smacked down the stack, much laugh and another. "Then this is..." "1186 Pages long, weighing 15 pounds." He had it and took another thread, again on the continuation, laughing and cheering. "[T] pages he long term still resolution - 1057 long, 14 pounds weighing." He smacked it down and then continue to much laugh "that was a total of 43 kilos of paper and ink." Congress should not one of these send.... "If you do, I signed it." Congress broke with applause and cheers. Was the signature Reagan: the use of a litany of statistics, illustrated by the mountains of paper and with an effective Pointe closed.

Won over the audience, Reagan could help Vice President Bush now. As he moved into Iran Contra politics, was his audience all ears. "Because the freedom fighter... have the Sandinistas, forced to extend some democratic rights, negotiate with church authorities and release a few political prisoners." We had Nicaragua been for what foreigners as "Lafayette Pulaki and Stuben" were the American Revolution. There was no excuse for all the actions that took over he or his Vice President.

It was not for nothing that he was the great Communicator in memory. Let's hope future Presidents take note.
